River Place - Chattanooga, TN
Completed in 1994
Scope
$6,000,000 50,000sf of mixed-use office, retail and visitor services
River Place was developed in conjunction with the RiverCity Company - Chattanooga's downtown development agency - and a local foundation interested in creating a landmark visitors center to serve Chattanooga's tourism industry. River Place is located on the Ross's Landing Park & Plaza within 150 feet of the Tennessee Aquarium and features a 6,700sf TGI Friday's restaurant on the ground floor. The Chattanooga Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is housed on the second floor next to the Visitors Center.
Significance
Conceived as a philanthropic project, River Place became a viable business development when KPH's principals became involved. They attracted TGI Friday's, which at that time, was considered a major coup for Chattanooga. By providing one-stop information and ticketing, the second floor Visitors Center has effectively increased the length of visitor stays by 30%.
